Blake Shelton Shares The Things He Still Gets Giddy Over

Blake Shelton called into The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his new show Barmageddon, answered listener questions and shared the things he still gets giddy over.

Shelton may be leaving The Voice next season, but he’s not leaving TV. His new show with Carson Daly called Barmageddon is a celebrity game show of their friends competing in over-the-top bar games filmed at Shelton’s bar in Nashville Ole Red. Shelton said the idea for the show happened during Covid. While he was filming The Voice during that time, they had to work with a stripped-down crew and audience. Him and Daly were watching the show Holey Moley in his dressing room and thought that show would be better if the people were drunk. That’s when they came up with the idea of Barmageddon. They had brainstormed numerous ideas in the past like beef jerky companies, weird aps, podcast ideas, but Shelton said they will never see the light of day.

Shelton answered some listener questions too, like why doesn’t he live in Nashville? He explained that he did for 12 years. He moved to Nashville in 1994 when he was 17 to chase his music dreams. To him, Nashville always felt like where he would go to work, not live. He always wanted to go back to Oklahoma, that’s home to him.

His favorite football team is the Arizona Cardinals. He said he’s been a fan of them for over 30 years but it’s been tough to be a fan of them right now. He gets asked how tall he is a lot. He thinks he is around 6’5, but might be shrinking as he gets older. When asked about his ranch size, he said it’s huge, but heard it’s rude to ask someone how many acres of land they have. Season 23 of The Voice happening next Spring will be Shelton’s last season. He said he’s leaving because he’s just tired of winning. Throughout his career, he’s been able to do some amazing things and meet lots of cool people, but to him what still makes him giddy is that he texts with Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston. He used to watch them all the time on TV when he was younger. He still can’t believe he gets to talk to them all the time.

Shelton recently released the deluxe version of his album Cheers, It’s Christmas, with three new songs on it. One of the songs, “Cheer For The Elves” his wife Gwen Stefani originally recorded on her Christmas album. He always thought it was an awesome song that never got it’s recognition, so he recorded it himself.

His “Back To The Honkytonk Tour” kicks off in March with Carly Pearce and Jackson Dean. He still hasn’t met Dean, but said he really likes his album. And you can watch his show, Barmageddon on USA Network Monday nights.
