Chapel Hart Have Yet To Meet Dolly Parton After Viral ‘AGT’ Performance

March is Women's History Month and today (March 8) is International Women's Day. To mark the special month of history, trio Chapel Hart came on The Bobby Bones Show to talk about their music, what life has been like since being on America’s Got Talent and how they are female artists changing music for the better.

Chapel Hart, made up of siblings Danica and Devynn Hart and their cousin Trea Swindle rose to popularity after their run-on season 17 of America’s Got Talent, but their “overnight success” took years to achieve. They formed their group five years ago, making it official in 2018. They chose the name Chapel Hart after a community in their hometown in Poplarville, Mississippi that’s called Harts Chapel, and they reversed it.

Their song “You Can Have Him Jolene” is their original song based on Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene.” When they performed it on America’s Got Talent all the judges rang the Golden Buzzer for them, and their performance went viral. To this day when people see them, they will call them the “Jolene girls.” Parton responded to their song by tweeting “What a fun new take of my song,” and tagging the girls alongside a video of their performance, but they still haven’t met Parton.

The girls who make up Chapel Hart are no stranger to big crowds; they are three out of 108 grandchildren! They joked how they asked their grandmother what it was like having seventeen kids, and she said after the ninth they just start to walk out. There was even a time when their grandmother was pregnant at the same time as some of her kids. Most of their family resides back in Mississippi and Louisiana, so when they play shows there it’s extra crazy because it’s like one big family reunion they said.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the trio reflected on a woman in the industry who has been there for them. Gretchen Wilson was their answer. Wilson had heard the girls mention her in an interview about watching her music videos when they were younger and seeing how she wasn’t scared to be different. It inspired them to keep going with pursuing a career in country music. Wilson reached out to them and said she’d always be there to help them navigate this crazy industry if needed. Another women they mentioned was Tanya Tucker, who they haven’t met yet, but she did send them an encouraging video before their final America’s Got Talent performance, which is why they were crying during it.

Chapel Hart has come a long way, they started just singing on the streets for hours, covering songs and coming up with different harmonies. Now, they are on their Glory Days Tour, which is named after their current single. The inspiration for that song came from where they are in life right now. They said they are truly living in the middle of their glory days right now. They don’t want to look back and wish they lived these days differently; they are aware how fortunate they are and are remaining present. They still can’t believe people are singing along to their songs and they get the chance to create and perform music they love for a living.
