Reba McEntire mourned the loss of a former Team Reba artist on The Voice.

Dylan Carter, a South Carolina-born singer who appeared on The Voice in 2023, died in a car accident over the weekend. He was 24. Law enforcement officials confirmed to TMZ that one person — who was identified in local reports as Carter, though not identified by law enforcement as of publication time — died in a single-vehicle accident around 11:42 p.m. on Saturday (April 25) in Colleton County, South Carolina.

“We will miss Dylan so much,” McEntire shared in a statement on her Instagram story on Monday morning (April 27). “He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”

Carter delivered a moving rendition of “I Look to You” by Whitney Houston during his blind audition for The Voice in 2023. He earned a four-chair turn from coaches McEntire, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and John Legend. Carter went on to co-found The Local Voice, a nonprofit organization based on Santee, South Carolina. A post by Sonya and Crystal on the organization’s Facebook account on Sunday (April 26) shared a heartfelt tribute to the late singer.

“Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen,” the tribute reads, in part. “We are heartbroken, but find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor. Please keep his family in your prayers in the coming weeks as they navigate this tremendous loss.”
