The University of Illinois conducted a study to figure out why 18-24 year olds, college students specifically, tend to waste food more than older adults. The researchers found that people at this stage of life really just haven't learned how to prevent food waste, due to mostly having food purchased for them in the past, or eating at dining halls/cafeterias. This means they don't know how to plan and grocery shop adequately for meals. They also may have limited access to refrigerators..think dorm rooms, which makes it difficult or impossible to save leftover rood.
