Amy's Latest Podcast Taped With IV In Her Arm

Have you ever done a podcast with an IV in your arm? Amy has!

In this week’s episode of 4 Things with Amy Brown, Brown gets real about the importance of taking care of your body both physically and mentally – because what you give, is what you get (hence, the IV).

First up is Amy’s childhood friend and family doctor, Kevin Lewis. Lewis goes in depth about how choosing joy is good for your health and that the placebo effect is real! Amy is going to start labeling water “Sleep Juice” and putting fish oil pills in her Midol bottle.

Next, we get an update how #PIMPINJOY has helped K9s for Warriors. Spoiler alert: Bobby is now a dog.

Later in the show, Amy introduces her friend, Adam Bobo. Bobo, who went to the same school as Dirty John, is an Nurse anesthetist in Nashville. The pair talk about the benefits of using IV drips to maintain a healthy lifestyle. (FYI - Bobo also stopped by our friend, Kelly Henderson’s podcast, Velvet’s Edge and they talked about hangovers!)

To finish it off, Amy shares some motivational quotes from @bossbabe.inc. Warning: these messages will leave you running to your friends telling them just how much you admire them.

P.S. last week’s episode with Amy’s husband was a hit – if you missed it, check it out here.

Thing 1: Benefits of Placebo

We all have heard of the placebo effect, and although many doesn’t believe it works, Dr. Kevin Lewis says otherwise. In recent years, there have been numerous studies on the placebo effect and almost all of them have noted that there is a positive response linked with placebos. Even if the patient knows the medication is not the real thing, there is still a 50% reduction in their initial symptoms.

Dr. Lewis lets Amy know that if someone replaced her wine with grape juice before bed, her mind will still think she’s drinking wine. Lewis explains that it all comes down to how one looks at the situation. If you believe it, you’ll have the confidence that it will work. He then describes the similarities between pain killers and fish oil. If you have some self-doubt, you can listen below.

(Trust him, he’s a doctor.)

Thing 2: Bobby is a Dog Thanks to K-9 Warriors

#PIMPINJOY is all about spreading love and you guessed it…joy. Last year, The Bobby Bones Show & The Shop Forward created a retro edition of our #PIMPINJOY shirts and all of the proceeds went to K9s for Warriors, a non-profit organization that provides service dogs to post-war veterans.

Pets are great companions and help their owners through the good and the bad which is why the organization is close to Amy’s heart. She talks about her relationship with her dogs and recommends reading the book, The Lone Survivor, to get a look at how service dogs can be so crucial for veterans and their healing.

Because our listeners bought #PIMPINJOY shirts, we raised enough money to buy 6 dogs for K9s for Warriors and decided to name them after every person on The Bobby Bones Show. We recently got a letter about one of the dogs and it’s named after Bobby! No word yet on when Amy’s dog will be known, but fingers crossed that it’s soon!

Visit K9s for Warriors to learn more about their mission to empower veterans to overcome the invisible wounds of war and return to civilian life with dignity and independence.

Thing 3: No Dirty John’s Here! How to Be Cancer Free

Millions of dollars go into cancer-research every year. Although there is still not a cure for it, there are a few steps everyone can do to help prevent falling sick and it starts with getting a weekly IV.

Nurse anesthetist, Adam Bobo, explains that the two biggest health factors are staying hydrated and getting an efficient amount of sleep. Unfortunately, most people are not good at either which is why IV drips are becoming so popular. Bobo recommends trying out two things in your vitamin bag has to handle these problems: glutathione and B12.

Vitamin bags allow you to get more hydration because it stays in your veins and flushes out your system better than if you were to chug a water bottle. In the medical world, glutathione is used to reduce symptoms of various diseases and helps prevent sickness. Brown, who is afraid she might have cancer because of her family history, swears by it. Plus, Bobo says it will have you feeling good on the inside and outside (#SkincareGoals).

While glutathione is great for hydration, B12 is even better for sleep. Bobo and Brown go in-depth about the types of B12 and how to get more bang for your buck.

Thing 4: Be a Boss Babe

Sometimes we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and only dwell on the negatives. One account that helps Brown get through her rainy days is @bossbabe.inc.

BOSSBABE is a feel-good site “where ‘bizzy’ and ‘bossy’ aren’t bad things to be”.Filled with quotes, affirmations, and tips for success – there’s no wonder why Brown has it as one of her things!

In the episode, Amy shares two quotes from BOSSBABE about being mindful of yourself and those around you:

"Easy to spot a yellow car when you are always thinking of a yellow car. Easy to spot opportunity when you are always thinking of opportunity. Easy to spot reasons to be mad when you are always thinking of being mad. You become what you constantly think about. Watch yourself."

“Support your friends, listen to their ideas, go to their events, buy what they’re selling when you can, share their posts, celebrate their victories, and remind them of their importance after their failures, push them, a little support can go a very long way”
