Thomas Rhett Reflects On Finding The 'Silver Lining' Of Quarantine

Thomas Rhett is hitting the stage at Night One of The 2020 iHeartRadio Music Festival on September 18.

Ahead of his incredible performance, TR caught up with Amy Brown, co-host of The Bobby Bones Show, to talk about his Festival performance, his charity song “Be A Light,” and how he and his family are coping with quarantine.

“Just to get to play music again is a true honor! Me and the band are so excited to get to play a version of a real show,” he told Amy before his performance. “It's going to be high energy, it's going to be fun...we got a guest joining us...Jon Pardi is here!”

Pardi, of course, will be joining Thomas Rhett for their mega collab “Beer Can't Fix.” In addition to chatting about the live collab, TR opened up about another special collaboration, “Be A Light.” The song, released on Rhett's 30th birthday in March, is a collaboration with Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin with all proceeds going to MusiCares.

“This song just sort of raised its hand as one of those things that we can really make an impact in a direct way,” he explained. “We teamed up with MusiCares and I donated all my royalties of this song to them just in hopes that I might help certain people within Nashville or wherever they may be.”

Speaking of quarantine, the “Marry Me” singer opened up about the positive side of all his work plans getting halted and how he and his family are looking at the glass half full.

“There are so many silver linings through this. For me, this is the most-consecutive days I've ever been at home in 10 years for sure,” he said. “I get to put my kids to bed at night and I get to wake up with them every day. I get to take them to school so this is time that I will never get back and I feel like this year I got to watch them grow up — It's been a pretty incredible time to get to spend with my family that I wouldn't have had I been on the road.”

Just earlier this week, Thomas Rhett won the coveted Entertainer of the Year honor at the Academy of Country Music Awards with Carrie Underwood in a historic tie. He recently told Elvis Duran of the big win with Underwood, "I’ll take a half for sure, that was unbelievable. Winning that with Carrie is absolutely nuts and doing it with someone that I have literally looked up to since i was 15 16 years old."

In case you missed it, or just want to re-live all of the epic performances from this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival, tune in to the two-night highlights special on The CW on September 27 and 28 from 8-10pm ET/PT.
